Kate Hartwell CPM, NHCM, CLC
Kate has been a licensed midwife and owner of Concord Birth Center since 2010. Before birth work, she managed two popular, NH based retail stores. Her education includes Heart and Hands Midwifery Intensive in San Francisco, CA, in 2000-2001, licensure in 2006 as a DONA certified doula, and an extensive midwifery apprenticeship from 2007-2010. She is an avid supporter of the apprentice training approach to licensure and welcomes students into the practice. She also completed the Certified Lactation Counselor training in 2012 to add to the care she provides in the postnatal period.
Kate values the midwifery model of care for many reasons, but informed choice stands out to her as one of the most important elements of healthcare. Talking to clients about testing options and working with them to make competent decisions is one of the most important aspects of her job. Catching babies is a highlight for Kate as well!
Establishing The River Guild is an important turning point in her career, expanding services to encompass the entire family with the same ideals and approach so important to her midwifery practice. The Guild will be a place for the community to be valued, heard, and respected in their health choices. Having a large area for classes, workshops, and gatherings will make The Guild an important community space – a place of calm, comfort, and happiness.
Kate is a NH native, with a wife and two young daughters. When she can, she enjoys heading up to the White Mountains and is working toward hiking all of New Hampshire’s 4,000 footers.
Cindy Owen CPM, NHCM
Administrator, Concord Birth Center
President, NH Midwives Association
Cindy has been attending births since 1999, first as a student and assistant, then as a licensed midwife since 2004. She graduated from Birthwise Midwifery School in Bridgton, ME and apprenticed with several home birth midwives, a birthing center in Texas, and a Family Practice. Cindy completed a year long Herbal apprenticeship in 1996 and uses natural healing methods in her midwifery practice. She has a good background in nutrition and breastfeeding support. In 2010 she joined in practice with Kate Hartwell at the Concord Birth Center. Together they run a thriving midwifery practice, attending birthing women at home and at the Concord Birth Center. They offer complete prenatal care, labor and birth support, and postpartum home visits for moms and newborns. Cindy believes that birth is a normal life process; that every woman should have the right to bring her baby into the world her own way. She practices by informed choice, offering the standards of maternity care, and listening to parent's opinions and requests. Cindy believes that family centered care is beneficial and educational for all involved. Children and partners are always welcome to attend appointments. As our practice grows by leaps and bounds, Cindy supports Kate in creating The River Guild next to the Birth Center. A spacious gathering place to bring holistic care, classes, and workshops to the wider community. Cindy lives with her family on 140 acres of conservation woodlands and fields. She and her husband have 6 adult children out in the world, and a teenage daughter at home. Cindy enjoys fiber arts, gardening, and homesteading.

I have been a licensed Chiropractor since 2003 when I graduated with honors from New York Chiropractic College in Seneca Falls, NY. I began my Chiropractic career working at Advanced Injury Treatment Center in Bedford, NH where I focused most of my practice working with athletes and utilizing The Graston Technique as my primary method of working with injuries. During those 7 years, I started to realize that my heart and passion was beyond working exclusively with the structural body.
In 2010, I opened Back In Motion in Merrimack, NH as a place that offered complementary and holistic modalities that were in alignment with the philosophy, art, and science of Chiropractic medicine. For the next 5 years, I was blessed to work with members of SOMA Holistic Therapy which ultimately provided the environment I needed to further develop my intuitive and energetics-centered approach to Chiropractic care.
In 2016, I moved my office to Concord, NH as it was becoming apparent to me that I was ready to expand my offerings to include elemental Shamanic medicine, guided sound meditations, and workshops in the modalities of energy and vibrational medicine. I have always taken a non-conventional approach with my practice and feel blessed to have various tools at my disposal to help my patients. I describe my approach as simple and straight forward. I work WITH my patients to find the areas of imbalance in their lives whether it's physical, chemical, mental, emotional or spiritual.
As a Holistic Chiropractor, Sound Therapist, and Energy Medicine practitioner, I am looking to support and guide you and your Innate Wisdom to come through and express itself through your life as intended, with ease and grace.
As a wise teacher once told me, I am not here to heal you. I am only here to show you the way. Everything needed for you to heal is already inside of you. If you are willing to take your foot off the brakes, then you can experience change for optimal well-being.

I am a NCCAOM Board Certified Acupuncturist, licensed in the state of New Hampshire. I received my Masters in Acupuncture at the New England School of Acupuncture at the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy and Health Sciences (MCPHS). I am continually awed by the ability of ancient medicine- meditation, basic Qigong (qi/energy cultivation), nutrition and herbs, tuina (Chinese massage) and acupuncture- to re-balance the body.
After graduating from Bates College, I worked in a number of health care related positions before finding my true passion- using acupuncture and East Asian medicine to help the body heal itself. I served as a clinical research associate, planning and carrying out eye allergy medication studies around the country. I then served as a manager for two quality improvement programs to improve care for heart disease patients at MaineHealth, the parent company of Maine Medical Center and several community hospitals in Maine. In both of these positions, I had the opportunity to "wear many hats" and learn many valuable skills- from reading scientific articles to presenting data and findings, developing databases and working directly with study participants, medical offices and physicians.
Prior to returning to school I served as Mom-In-Chief to two beautiful boys. It was in this position that I gained a most valuable perspective- achieving wealth through health- by choosing healthy foods, exercising and practicing yoga, and avoiding mediation when possible. That being said, I too have fallen into ruts over time and have come to realize that it is often harder to maintain healthy habits than to achieve them initially.
If you are someone who does not like to live life on the sidelines, I am here to help. In addition to practicing acupuncture, I am an avid half-marathon and Reach the Beach runner, a hiker working to complete all 4,000 foot peaks in New England, a swimmer and water enthusiast (sailing, paddle-boarding, waterskiing). Injury impedes my ability to lead the active lifestyle that I love and I work to avoid it by keeping my body healthy and balanced. I can help you work toward your goals, whether they be to live with less pain, reduce the symptoms of chronic illness, recover more quickly, or simply feel less stressed.
